POSCO is a leading steel company in South Korea, excelling in the manufacturing sector. The POSCO Group pursues innovation in various business segments, beyond just producing steel products. Recently, they embarked on a project to implement a BPM (Business Process Management) module for efficient management of accounting schedules.
Project Background POSCO Group manages various accounting schedules and procedures annually, requiring collaboration across departments. Precise schedule management and real-time data sharing are essential. However, the existing system relied on manual data entry and sharing across multiple departments, leading to inefficiencies and a high potential for errors. To address these issues, POSCO introduced a BPM module to maximize the efficiency of accounting schedule management.
Design and Development of the BPM Module The core goal of the BPM module was to visualize the entire accounting schedule flow in real time across POSCO Group. The project proceeded through the following stages:
Requirements Analysis:
Collaborated with each department to identify the current state and issues of accounting schedule management. Detailed analysis of necessary functions and requirements to reflect in the BPM module design. System Design:
Utilized BI (Business Intelligence) tools to visualize real-time data flow. Designed a system to process data entered by each department centrally and display it in real-time visualizations. Module Development:
Developed a data visualization module using BI tools. Built a system structure capable of real-time data processing and updates. Designed a user-friendly interface for easy use by department personnel. Testing and Verification:
Tested the developed module in each department, incorporating feedback for improvements. Verified the system's stability and efficiency by applying it to actual accounting schedule management. Implementation Effects The implementation of the BPM module resulted in the following benefits for accounting schedule management within the POSCO Group:
Increased Efficiency:
Enabled real-time management of accounting schedules, significantly improving work efficiency. Facilitated smoother inter-departmental collaboration and reduced the time required for schedule management. Error Reduction:
Moved away from manual data entry to an automated system, reducing input errors. Enabled processing of tasks based on always up-to-date information through real-time data updates. Decision Support:
Visualization of data using BI tools greatly assisted management in making quick and accurate decisions. Allowed for strategic planning by providing an overview of accounting schedules at a glance. Improved User Satisfaction:
User-friendly interface and convenient features helped department personnel easily adapt to the system, resulting in high satisfaction. Conclusion POSCO's BPM module implementation project not only enhanced the efficiency of accounting schedule management but also drove innovation in the overall business process. By providing real-time data flow visualizations, POSCO Group can now operate in a more structured and efficient manner. Moving forward, POSCO will continue to introduce such innovative systems to maintain competitiveness in the global steel market and sustain long-term growth.
